Washington Square Village Master Plan
Rochester, New York
Perhaps the most underutilized parcel of land in the Center
City, this block is composed of late Nineteenth and early Twentieth
Century brick warehouse buildings. Only steps from the high rise
office towers of Rochester's corporate giants, most of this
district's buildings are currently vacant or used for storage,
while at mid-block sits a large, asphalt surface parking lot that
once housed Rochester's Public Natatorium. PLAN Architectural
Studio envisions a bustling, dense urban village composed of
mixed-use mid-rise buildings, and a high-rise loft-style
condominium tower. The Washington Square Village Master Plan
advocates for the restoration the historic buildings in the
district, while adding nearly 400 new residents and hundreds of new
parking spaces. The public realm of Woodbury Boulevard, South
Avenue, and Capron Street will include on-street parking, and will
open to commercial storefronts that will someday house restaurants,
cafes, and retail shops.
